I was commissioned by the author Renata Formoso, Noah’s mum, to design the layout for The Fizzy Brain, a children’s book written by Noah.
The book explores neurodiversity through Noah’s perspective – with a little help from his mum – as he shares how he experiences ADHD and Autism, which he describes as having a “fizzy brain”.
It was incredibly meaningful to be part of such an important and personal project, especially one that encourages conversations about neurodiversity with children.

In the early stages, Renata and I explored different typographic directions, trying to find a style that felt both expressive and authentic to Noah’s voice.
First typeface studies
After several conversations, we decided to take a more personal approach by developing a custom lettering style inspired by Noah’s own handwriting.
We worked together using an iPad, where Noah drew multiple variations of letters. This process allowed me to study the nuances of his writing – the irregular lines, repeated strokes, variations in weight, and the organic rhythm of his letterforms.
These observations became the foundation for the custom lettering developed for the book, helping to create a visual language that feels personal, expressive and closely connected to Noah’s story.
Once the lettering style was defined, I designed the layout of the book.
Impact
The book has had a meaningful reach, with public readings in schools, libraries and events – including World Autism Awareness Day at Battersea Power Station.
It was also featured on Brazilian television, on Caldeirão do Mion (TV Globo), helping bring the story to a wider audience.
Translation
The Fizzy Brain has been translated and published in Brazil in 2026 by HarperCollins (HarperKids), expanding its reach to new readers.
The amazing illustrations and cover design were made by the artist Emi Webber.
